Reverie: Seaside Design that will Melt your Mind
“Never love anybody who treats you like you are ordinary”.
Oscar Wilde always had the wittiest epigrams (read: clever sayings) that inspire me.
There is a fine line between ordinary and simple. That’s why we love simple things like vanilla ice-cream. Simple is NOT ordinary. In french something that is ordinary is just plain common.
So I am re-writing this little epigram to suit today’s post which is about reverie, dream-like water spaces.
“Never create anything like its ordinary.”
So, onto Extraordinary recreational design!!! Small changes in design can achieve aesthetic and/or social behavioural outcomes. It's fascinating how relocating elements to where they are traditionally not encountered can increase people’s appreciation for a simple swing, swimming pool or a hammock. But these names aren’t appropriate for what follows. What follows is hardly simple or ordinary. They will heighten your senses. I’ll let the visuals do the sparkling for you!
1/ Seaside Reverie: Swing time
These seaside hammocks bring a playfulness to a beachside holiday. Sitting and contemplating the water or laughing with a friend. The aesthetic outcome is unique and relaxing to the eye.
2/ Poolside paradise
These pools inset into the ocean are probably not the most ecological. Yet, they seamlessly connect man-made structure with nature to create a harmonious environment in which to relax, take in some sunshine or feast on the stars.
The hammock hideouts have got to be my favourite. Why didn't we think of this before?
This would be perfect feature for a lake-side country home. The first visual with the gently upward-facing lighting really captures the sensuality and the magical essence of the design.
To end with Wilde (it only seemed appropriate):
"An idea that is not dangerous is not worthy of being called an idea at all."
These seaside designs astutely push the envelope while remaining simple and sleek. Dangerous? Yes, maybe they are a little dangerous in terms of conventional design. But then again who doesn't like a little danger! Wink Wink!
Do you know any of these designers? Is there another seaside design that inspires you? Let us know!
